I Went Vegan For One Week (and this is what happened)

You know, I never really stopped to think about how badly I actually eat Bacon, eggs, and pancakes drenched in syrup for breakfast… Ham and chicken fettuccine with grated parmesan, served with a 7-Up for lunch And for dinner an entire pizza, just for me Sounds pretty dreamy, doesn’t it? Well, recently I’ve been noticing that I’m not really as sharp as I once was As of late, I’ve noticed that I’ve been very groggy. Like getting out of bed at even 9 am is the hardest thing in the world My energy levels seem to be plummeting to no end and I think it’s due to the rubbish that I consume. If you’ve ever looked, then you’d know that there are a ton of diets out there. The raw food diet The Atkins diet, the Zone diet, The Mediterranean diet, vegetarian, vegan, raw vegan, gluten-free vegan, gluten-free, starch-free food-free sadness raw vegan and many of these diets promise very similar results, such as higher energy levels, healthier skin, and Smelling better… no for real. So that back the question. What if I were to go vegan for one week? What if I were to cut everything out that I’ve been eating for the last 20 years of my life? Milk, meat, ice cream… would that be enough to notice any difference? Let’s find out! Hey guys, good morning. This is day number one of being a vegan I have yet to eat anything that’s actually vegan… that’s going to be the first thing on my agenda for today. I’m really hungry, so… I’m ready, ok! I’m not even sure if Lima, Peru has any vegan restaurants?? Well, would you look at that! There actually is a few vegan restaurants in the general area. It’s 3.5 km away, and I’m going to walk. Vegans don’t use vehicles, ok? I’d honestly never eaten vegan food before… well, not deliberately that is. Here I am guys, my very first vegan restaurant Don’t know what to expect And the food was alright at best, but I still ate it, and was relatively full at the end… But then 3.5 hours later, I was starving once again Bom-bom-Bom! Subway, Subway, let’s see what I got a bag of Lay’s classics A sub with nothing more than vegetables Is that cheese? There’s cheese on this thing What! Why is there cheese on this? I’m gonna have to pick off the cheese? It’s like melted onto the bread This is the world’s most disgusting, soggy, pile of disgust But it’s vegan! My very first day of being a vegan is complete. As far as I feel physically, nothing’s really changed I had thought things were going pretty well. This whole vegan thing, well… It was easier than I thought. I know it’s only day one But I really don’t think this challenge is going to be as hard as I initially thought. Yeah, until 1 am rolled around… Hey guys! It’s like 1:30 am… And I really… want…ICE CREAM! Yeah, maintaining these cravings is gonna be a challenge Waah! So I woke up feeling extremely groggy and confused And hungry. Look what I found, guys! A banana! The only thing in my entire kitchen that’s vegan On day number 2 and 3, I felt something that I probably shouldn’t have I felt hungry. It made me realize how unprepared I was to go fully vegan I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning So I ended up doing something that I should have done day one I called up an expert Basically what he’s saying is I need to divide up my diet into parts. Kinda like the oh-so-traditional and controversial elementary school food pyramid. I need to double up on my grains, Eat a mix of fruits and veggies, Seeds and beans, and nuts, oils, and fats. So guys, I think it’s time I go grocery shopping First stop: Wong This grocery store has the most impressive fruit section I’ve ever seen in any grocery store in the US I love you Peru. I love you and your fruits. Oranges, bananas, coconuts, pineapples, star fruit, passion fruit, peaches, grapefruit, avocado I don’t even know if this is, but I’m buying 3! So that about wraps up my shopping experience Now I just need to do a quick stop at Krispy Kreme! This is what health looks like! After I made the plan and got the supplies I needed, and ate, ate, and ate, I didn’t feel like I was starving myself anymore, and I actually started to feel good. So I almost made it a whole 5 days of being vegan and, guys, I feel good! I’m not hungry to where I don’t feel as weak, and I’m not sure if it’s psychological or whatever, but I feel very alive right now. I’m liking the way I’m feeling! I began to actually love the food I was eating It wasn’t that I was eating to be vegan, or I wasn’t eating to be healthy, I was eating because it was delicious and it felt good. And I think with just that being said, this has all been a great success. Tomorrow is the last day to fulfill the week of being a vegan I’m gonna give myself a fist pump for doing it, even though I still got a day left. I’m proud. I feel good! So okay, a week is definitely not enough time to see or feel drastic changes. However, it was enough for me to realize something Food is essentially fuel. What we put in our bodies is energy. Our bodies are our everything and why do I treat mine so poorly? After this experience, honestly, I’m kinda scared to commit to the vegan lifestyle. This week was hard, like, really hard But at least I now have a new understanding. Treating yourself right feels good. Eating right feels good And I think I just might put away the bad stuff for a while
