How To Make Vegetarian Refried Beans | Hilah Cooking Ep 39

Hey guys! It’s Hilah. I know you weren’t expecting to see me back
so soon and honestly I wasn’t expecting to see me back so soon either, but this whole
summer vacation I have been working on this really super-awesome Breakfast Taco Book that
you will be able to get for free. Here are the drawings that I made for the
book. Yay! I was on a vacation. I was like, “You know what? I have been working hard writing this book. I am going to go to Indonesia. Do some eatin’, some prayin’, some lovin’
on myself.” Get a little me time in, and then Chris calls
me up and he was like, “Whoa! Whoa! Stop your hot yoga or whatever. You got to get back here because we have never
showed these people how to make refried beans” Refried beans, you have to be involved in
a breakfast taco book, so that’s what I am going to show you how to do right now is
make some refried beans, and after the show, I will tell you how to get your very own copy
of the Hilah Cooking Breakfast Taco Book. Cheers! [MUSIC] [Refried Beans Recipe] Okay, so before we get into the nitty gritty
of how to make refried beans, I am going to tell you a little bit about this book because
I am super-duper proud of it. We started thinking about it I guess after
we shot all these episodes and they were kind of already about breakfast tacos anyway like
the hangover tacos and tortillas and salsa and scrambled eggs and home fries, and so
we’re like, “Let’s write a book about breakfast tacos because they’re awesome
and delicious,” and lots of people have never had them or worse, they think that they
are breakfast burritos which they are not, and there is a whole section in the book about
that. The book also includes recipes for everything
you need to fill up a breakfast taco in case you don’t live near a place to buy breakfast
tacos, but we realized we never made a video about refried beans, so that’s what I am
going to show you how to do right now, and we’ll just wrap up this whole breakfast
taco book like that. Okay. The first thing I am going to do is smash
a clove of garlic and sauté it in some oil. That’s how we do it. Okay, oh, I am going to turn this on. I kind of, I am a little rusty. It’s been a while since I’ve, since I
shot anything as you may have noticed. You’ve probably been missing me because
I’ve been missing you. Well, I smashed it really hard, it’s all
mashed up in there, and I am going to do these vegan. I am going to use some olive oil instead of
lard, but I mean that’s just because I don’t happen to have lard on hand. If I did, I would totally use lard because
it is kind of delicious in refried beans. At any rate I am going to put some oil in
here, a couple of tablespoons, and I am going to put my mashed-up garlic in there. Okay, and then here I have pinto beans which
I have cooked in some water with garlic and a bay leaf and some salt for about an hour
and a half, and they’re done because I can go like that, and they go pochhhhheeeehhh! And the smush out all over my fingers. So what I am going to do now is put in a spoonful
of beans into my skillet and mash them up, and I’ll just keep doing that until they’re
all mashed. Okay, and I’ve turned the heat down to low
because my garlic was getting a little burny, so you just do like so, and then you add a
little bit more, and you keep mashing, kind of a slow process. We should fast-forward this part. Okay, these are done. This is what they look like. You put them in a tortilla. I am going to taste them for salt purposes. Those are delicious! Okay, so here’s how you can get your very
own copy of The Hilah Cooking Breakfast Taco Book. Sign up for the newsletter which is on the
website of HilahCooking.com. There’s a little thing. Just put in your email address. We’re not going to send you a bunch of crap. We’re only going to send you awesome stuff

get some wild hair up my ass and decide to shoot something about eating bugs in the Ashram. I don’t know. But I will see you later. Sign up for the newsletter if you want to
